Retreat Reflections
This week I’m on personal retreat. When I reclaim time, I do it with intention and care. I’ve committed myself this week to minimal outside communication (only responding once daily to critical email and phone calls) and taking time in silence. The theme for my retreat is self-renewal and creativity. I’m sharing this old Irish prayer with you in this spirit:
Take time to work.
It is the price of success.
Take time to meditate.
It is the source of power.
Take time to play.
It is the secret of eternal youth.
Take time to read.
It is the way to knowledge.
Take time to be friendly.
It is the road to happiness.
Take time to laugh.
It is the music of the soul.
And take time to Love and be Loved.
My coaching request of you this week is to reflect on how to bring more of these elements consciously into your life. Are you ready and willing to reclaim a little time?
Personal Reflections
Since I was a very young adult, I have felt compelled to take silent retreats, preferably alone and in nature. It seems to be the way I consciously heal, take stock, make big decisions, and in general stay connected with my authenticity. I also sleep and dream extensively. When big transitions are coming, I take a retreat, even if it is only for a day. But, at least twice a year, I take longer retreats. I am committed to creating and claiming this time to support my health and growth.
There were a number of elements that led to my retreat this week. Last week brought closure to my delivery of a large coaching program, filled with excitement and intensity. The ending brings space for creating something new, after this time of rest and renewal. My “visioning” for the coming year begins in the fall every year, as I review and start anew (quite a different process from hastily stated New Year Resolutions, I assure you).
So this week I’m spending time in the woods, noticing all the leaves turning color and falling to the ground, crunching underfoot. I’m writing and even doodling a little, feeling compelled to play the piano and simply to stare out the window, pondering.
To the outside eye, it may appear to be wasting time. I’m okay with that perspective, but for me it is anything but a waste; I’ve learned, sometimes the hard way, what happens when I deny myself this time.
So I’m granting myself as much idle time as is needed to recharge my batteries and gain a deep, compelling sense of what I’ll turn toward next. I’m eager to discover and share it with you!
May you take the steps that speak most clearly to your heart.
To your wellness,
Lori
